Rob Lowe Launches a Skincare Line Rob Lowe can now add beauty entrepreneur to his resume. The 51-year-old is launching a skincare line this fall and tells WWD, “I’m not the celebrity endorser, I’m not the face of the product. I’m the developer of it. I have an entrepreneurial spirit. I’m just very proprietary about my communications and my aesthetic.” In addition, the actor-slash-entrepreneur will be debuting two fragrances he developed in time for the holiday season. [tFS]
L’Oreal is Planning to 3D Print Human Skin The beauty giant is partnering with bioprinting start-up Organovo to figure out a way to 3D print real human skin that can be used to test products in order to avoid animal testing. Research for the endeavor will take place in L’Oreal’s new California research center as well as Organovo’s San Diego-based lab, and L’Oreal hopes to “speed up and automate skin production within the next five years.” [Bloomberg]
Azzedine Alaïa Launches First Fragrance Fashion designer Azzedine Alaïa is launching his first ever fragrance, Alaïa Paris, this summer after teaming up with Beaute Prestige International, the same folks behind the cult favorite, Narciso Rodriguez for Her. [NYT]
P&G Sells Fekkai, Marking Its Third Time Being Sold In an effort to unload some of its beauty portfolio, Proctor and Gamble has sold hair-care brand Fekkai along with its seven salons to Fekkai Brands, a joint venture between Luxe Brands and Designer Parfums. This marks the third time the Fekkai business has been sold, and according to WWD P&G “far from profited on the deal,” having sold it for just $50 million after buying it back in 2008 for an estimated $440 million. Sonia Kashuk to Launch Skin Care Kashuk hinted in a tFS interview that her eponymous brand would soon make its skincare debut, and now, a date has been set. The Target-exclusive brand will roll out four skincare products— an exfoliating wash, a toner, a black mask, and a oil-removing cleanser— this November. [WWD]
