Mambo Just Released a Really Weird Summer 2014 Campaign

We’re not sure what just happened. Mambo toasts its 30th birthday this year, and have put together a really weird Summer 2014 campaign video for the celebration. They’ve tapped a cast of Australian and international talent, including model Caitlyn Paterson and Puberty Blues hunk Sean Keenan, to do some super strange and questionable activities for the clip shot in NSW’s Northern Beaches.

Caitlyn and her super hot model friend, Sports Illustrated‘s Nina Agdal, kick off the video by posing with bananas alongside a very stoked Sean. He’s just really happy to be there, you guys. Then there’s a bunch of girl-on-girl cuddling and hose waterfights between the attractive trio before shit gets really weird.

The babes start hitchhiking (which we definitely don’t condone), because apparently they’re “going nowhere”. They even try to hitch a flag down an ambulance. Classy. Marriage material for sure.

Then funny man Sean pulls out baguettes for arms, which he eats, and then weeps at the injustice. Fun is in store for the apparent amputee, though, who regains possession of his limbs to share a blow-up pool date with Nina, bouquets of red grapes, floaties, and rubber duckies included.

Problem is, we didn’t really catch the Summer 2014 designs amongst all the loose-cannon commotion. Considering all the scenarios which went down, we imagine it’s a pretty extensive collection. Mambo’s also affordable, so you might want to grab a swimsuit or two when it drops in-store this month.

Be sure to watch the short film below, which, we forgot to mention, was directed by the three Mambo ambassadors themselves.

Country Road to Launch Activewear Line

Country Road is venturing into the fitness market, announcing the news across social media platforms this week. According to the retailer’s little promo video for the upcoming range, the pieces will have you covered when it comes to stretching, jumping, sprinting, boxing, dumb-bell lifting and more.

Country Road’s Facebook page says it’s “bringing a fashion edge to high performance activewear” with the upcoming collection, dubbed CR Active. If the chain-store’s current offering is anything to go by, we have no qualms in believing that statement.

Australian high-jump champion Amy Pejkovic is the face of the campaign, and you can watch her get sporty in neons and rad hoodie vests in the video below. The collection will be available in-store from October 9.

Alessandra Ambrosio Touches Down in Sydney for Australia’s Next Top Model

A Victoria’s Secret angel is in town. Alessandra Ambrosio, with hubby Jamie Mazur in tow, touched down in Sydney yesterday as the first confirmed guest judge for Australia’s Next Top Model Cycle 9.

While producers of the show will not formally replace former judge Charlotte Dawson, who died suddenly earlier this year, a revolving door of high-profile guests like Alessandra will help Alex Perry and Jennifer Hawkins find a winner.

Alessandra jetsetted to Sydney back in April for Alex’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia Spring 2015 showcase, so we’re sure the pair will be overjoyed to be working together again.

Ashley Hart Looked Like Malibu Barbie on Dancing with the Stars Last Night

Did you watch Dancing with the Stars last night? If not, shame on you. Haven’t you heard it’s the best lineup yet? They’ve tapped the usual athletes, Home & Away stars, and (music to our ears) supermodels including Ashley Hart.

Ashley kicked things off with her dance partner Julz Tocker, who played Malibu Ken to her Malibu Barbie. The whole thing was hilarious, really. The dancing duo set the scene with Julz shimmying around in a pile of sand, while Ashley lay on her sunbed in one of the most ridiculous outfits we’ve ever seen.

The Mix Apparel model rocked a blue-belted ra-ra for the cha-cha, and a matching crop adorned with bright pink and yellow embellishments. It was her retro sunnies, disco hoop earrings and rolled-back waves which really finished the look, though. Meanwhile Julz was rocking an open Hawaiian shirt, because abs.

Ashley’s dancing skills were mediocre, because there must be some justice in this world. Luckily, some judges weren’t as focused on the quality of her routine as they were on her hotness. Judge Todd McKenney said, “You’re both bombshells together,” while Helen Richey noted, “Ashley, you look absolutely beautiful.”

Kym Johnson really let Ashley have the compliments. “Ashley, you just light up the dancefloor. But you’d sort of light up any room you walked into, because you are drop dead gorgeous,” she said. “Those legs, my goodness!” Um, she’s a model remember?

Cate Blanchett Steps Out in Stella McCartney, Christian Dior Couture for 2014 Zurich Film Festival

Cate Blanchett was on the 2014 Zurich Film Festival Circuit over the weekend, turning to high-end designers for two appearances on Saturday, September 27. The 45-year-old maintained her feminine sophistication, as always, in ladylike getups by Stella McCartney and Christian Dior Couture.

Cate Blanchett Stella McCartney

Photo: Lennart Preiss/Getty

For the IWC Photo Exhibition opening, the actress stepped out in a textural blue dress from Stella McCartney’s Resort 2015 collection. There was definitely a vintage vibe with large buttons and side pockets, but the piece stayed fresh and on-trend with a triangular midriff cut-out. She teamed the dress with dark-mahogany pointed-toe pumps, which tapped back into the retro feel.

Later that day Cate attended a screening of Blue Jasmine, the film which won her an Oscar for Best Actress, in a Christian Dior frock coat from its Fall 2014 Couture collection. The forest-green piece with full skirting and kinked-up collar looked a regal dream once teamed the same mahogany heels from earlier in the day. The embellished white belt gave the look shape, while also adding an element of modernity.

NRL WAGs Shine in Couture at the 2014 Dally M Awards

NRL WAGs dolled themselves up in support of their main men last night, stepping out for the Dally M Awards at Sydney’s Star City. The annual event had the girls shining on the red carpet in dazzling couture or otherwise, perfectly complementing (ahem, outshining) the standard black-and-white suits of their partners.

Scroll through below to see our favourite getups from NRL’s big night.

Jodi Anasta easily took out best dressed, and yummiest mummy, in this shimmering lace J’Aton Couture gown. The sheer fabric, plunging neckline and thigh split amped up sex appeal without sacrificing the elegance of this look. Her softly balayaged locks and bronzed skin polished off the bohemian-luxe vibe.

Anthony Minichiello‘s wife, Queen WAG Terry Biviano, stunned in a revealing white-and-nude gown by Pallas Couture. While Jodi was our fave dressed, Terry definitely gave her a run for her money in this detailed piece.

Geoff Toovey‘s daughter, Georgia Toovey, surprised in a younger getup than the others. She wore a white long-sleeved dress with a cracked-pink pattern, shiny earrings, pulled-back locks, and a less-than-thrilled facial expression.

Photo: Don Arnold/WireImage

Gareth Widdop‘s other half, Carley Widdop, went for an all-black look. She donned a one-shoulder gown with frill detail on the hip, teamed with a rectangle clutch and strappy heels. She also looked super ecstatic to be there.

The Footy Show‘s Erin Molan wore a stunning Diane Lewis Couture gown, with divine embroidery throughout. If you want the sexiness of a mini but the elegance of a maxi, take a cue from Erin for your next event.

Rose Byrne Works Bronze-on-Bronze for Broadway Debut

Rose Byrne

Photo: Joseph Marzullo/WENN

Rose Byrne made her broadway debut last night, September 28, in the George Kaufman and Moss Hart 1936 comedy You Can’t Take it With You. The Aussie actress celebrated her leap into theatre in a bronze-on-bronze getup, at the Brasserie 8.5 restaurant after-party in New York.

Rose rocked a deep metallic-brown Dsquared² midi dress, featuring a weave-look bodice with diamond chest cut-outs plus thin halter straps. The fine pleating from the waist to ankles kept the look ladylike, as well as the bronze pointed-toe Casadei pumps.

Normally we wouldn’t suggest wearing accessories in the same colour as your statement piece, but, as usual, Rose has pulled it off. Maybe she just really loves the shoes, because she rocked the same ones back in June with an LBD.

Heavenly Structures at Ellery’s Paris Fashion Week Spring 15 Show

Designer Kym Ellery is obviously making waves over in the city of love, with her label Ellery showcasing its third consecutive Paris Fashion Week show on Saturday, September 17. It’s a match made in heaven, really, with Ellery continually offering a mix of sophisticated and romantic pieces. Just like Paris, the label is all class and inspiration.

Ellery PFW

Photo: Ellery

The Spring 15 showcase saw Ellery’s feminine whites in full swing, this time exploring with slouchy pants, structured high-neck jackets, halter tops with exaggerated peplums, and eccentric bubbly sculptures. Dark hues like navy blue and rich jade added a certain dreamlike appeal to the fresh collection, as well as the signature billowy sleeves which Ellery is so well known for.

Ellery PFW

Photo: Ellery

An incorporation of Barbie-esque hot pink was unexpected, but we understand the move after Moschino‘s Spring 15 collection was received with such high acclaim. The girlie tone was the only real punchy pop of colour, with the designer otherwise sticking to muted tan, soft blush, and neutral-coloured tweeds.

Ellery PFW

Our favourite looks included the use of sheer fabrics with feather-like fringing or webbed lace underlays, as well as layered pieces which either added feminine fluidity or tailored structure to the garments. On the flipside, we were thoroughly confused by the wrap-front jackets which created the illusion of a missing arm.

See all the runway looks in the gallery below.

An All-Star Lineup For Target Australia’s Mercedez-Benz Fashion Festival Sydney Runway Show

Target Australia has impressed during Mercedez-Benz Fashion Festival Sydney over the weekend, with affordable style for the whole family and an all-star lineup including Samantha Jade and Dannii Minogue.

Top models like Rachael Finch, Samantha Harris and Stephanie Cherry all graced the runway too, showcasing an accessible offering of casual everyday pieces right through to spring racing getups and perfect workwear combos.

Dannii Minogue’s new Petites for Target Range was included in the runway show, and the singer-turned-designer shook her thing alongside The X Factor‘s 2012 winner Samantha for her finale performance of ‘What You’ve Done to Me’.

Dannii appeared to be pretty chummy with Samantha, who played her sister, Kylie Minogue, in Never Tear Us Apart: The Untold Story of INXS, and appears to share a similar petite physique.

Sasha Pivovarova’s i-D Cover Is ‘the Best One in a Really Long Time’ (Forum Buzz)

What is love? Well, i-D magazine asks that exact question as Sasha Pivovarova makes the cover of the magazine’s Fall 2014 issue, and our forums have been set ablaze. The Russian model and mother of one wears Louis Vuitton as Glen Luchford captured the fresh-faced beauty for the black and white cover image. As usual, the cover shot sticks to i-D‘s signature style with Sasha’s blond tresses cascading down one side of her face to conceal an eye.

i-D Fall 2014 Sasha Pivovarova

IMAGE: ID.VICE.COM VIA TFS FORUMS

Sasha seems to be one of those models who just keeps hitting it out of the park for our forum members. “I´m speechless… she looks amazing! The styling and photography look so right for her,” exclaimed kokobombon.

“Sasha can’t do wrong!” agreed Lifeispeachy.

Nepenthes was on board with the cover and wrote, “Stunning, love how gentle the hair looks over her eye!”

Also sharing an enthusiastic attitude was KateTheGreatest: “Love is the right word for this cover, the best one in a really long time.”

“I’ve missed Sasha on covers! There’s just nothing to complain about, everything looks perfect!” said Valentine27, clearly yet another satisfied Sasha fan.

Although not everyone was ecstatic. “Great seeing Sasha and she does look good, but I was hoping for a little more than this,” commented justaguy, who was left underwhelmed.

Benn98 was equally unfulfilled and posted, “Well, it’s certainly not what I expected, but it’s passable.”

Underwhelming or overwhelming? You decide! See inside the thread and join the discussion here.

For all those missing the days of buying Cherry Coke with ease, you can opt for the dark-plum shade inspired by the hard-to-find bevvy.

The range doesn’t stop there, also tapping other fizzies from the beverage corporation. Think shimmering citrus green for bubbly Sprite, and bright orange and deep purple for Fanta Orange and Fanta Grape.

Sorry, What? Camilla and Marc Team Up With a Bank for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival Sydney

Well, that’s not something you see every day. Australian label Camilla and Marc unveiled new uniforms for St. George Bank at the Mercedez-Benz Fashion Festival Sydney last night, in one of the most unlikely partnerships we’ve ever witnessed.

Model Rachael Finch and presenter Tom Williams were tapped as ambassadors for the brand-spankin-new designs, with the attractive pair leading the runway’s finale.

The new designs, which look more appropriate for a stewardess than a banker, are a big improvement compared to past uniforms. The St. George Bank team used to put up with pale-green button-down dresses and red-and-white striped nautical numbers (seriously, see below), so the crisp black, whites and emerald-greens of the new workwear will hopefully make for much happier staff.

Marie Claire Apologises for Publishing Culturally Offensive Pic of Gemma Ward

Image: Paul Kane/Getty

Image: Paul Kane/Getty

The fashion world has made another boo-boo. Marie Claire Australia has pissed off New Zealander academic Ngarino Ellis, because it published a photo of Gemma Ward with a Maori moko painted on her chin for its October issue.

The spread was intended to pay tribute to French designer Jean Paul Gaultier, but has caused offence to the senior art history lecturer at the University of Auckland.

“Moko is complex and serious and not to be taken lightly,” Dr Ellis told the NZ Herald . “It is disturbing that Marie Claire is so removed from current discussions globally about the importance of the fashion world to be ethical and culturally inclusive.”

In a statement issued to Daily Mail Australia , the glossy has apologised “unreservedly” for offending the Maori people’s cultural values. “The image was not created or commissioned by Marie Claire, but one chosen as part of a retrospective of the work of the fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier,” it read. “We would not knowingly support the appropriation of any aspect of another culture without the participation or support of the members of that culture.”

It seems more apologies are in order, though. The Australian Women’s Weekly also used the image to promote the Jean Paul Gaultier exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria starting next month.

Be sure to check out the image here, or grab a copy of Marie Claire‘s October issue (it’s the one with Lena Dunham on the cover) on stands now, and tell us what you think.

Fashion Bloggers Present the Runway at Mercedez-Benz Fashion Festival Sydney

Last night the pressure was on for Australia’s most renowned fashion bloggers, Kate Waterhouse, Zanita Whittington, Sara Donaldson and Margaret Zhang, to present the Fashion Bloggers on Style: Spring Edits runway show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival Sydney.

The girls curated looks from a plethora of Aussie designers, and sent their favourites down the runway at Sydney’s Town Hall for an inspirational cut of Spring 14 trends. It was clearly a promotional ploy for their upcoming reality program Fashion Bloggers , although the bunch were one girl short without Amanda Shadworth there to complete their fab five.

With all girls possessing such different style, the result was an inspirational cut of how we should all be dressing this season. Think silky rust-coloured pieces from TOME, monochrome magic from Jac + Jack and Bassike (undoubtedly chosen by the minimalist of the pack, Sara), slouchy trenches over sexy bralettes from Michael Lo Sordo (we’re looking at Michael’s muse, Marget for that pick), and quirky Alice McCall pieces, to name a few.

It Was a Mixed Style Offering from The Bachelor’s Jessica

We were too busy watching Jessica Jones exchange sensual stares with The Bachelor‘s Blake Garvey all season to even notice what she was wearing.

Even though her one-on-one dates saw her wearing magical gowns and fur shoals to set the romantic scene, her rose ceremony choices were a bit of a mixed offering.

When she wasn’t wearing a floor-length gown she turned to mini dresses in sweet florals or digital prints, but always changed up the style with different hair, makeup and accessory choices.

Her doe-eyed gazes and hopeful smiles were, of course, a great addition to every outfit.

All the Mind-Blowing Outfits from Kylie Minogue’s Kiss Me Once Tour

Kylie Mingoue Kiss Me Once

46-year-old Kylie Minogue is still the ultimate showgirl. She’s demonstrated that fact yet again some of her best outfits yet on the first night of her European Kiss Me Once tour in Liverpool last night. Not that we needed proof.

The pocket rocket rocked a mix of risqué and insanely shiny getups, including sexy corsets, glittery knickers, fishnet tights and quirky fascinators, with her backup dancers donning equally fabulous attire.

Women’s Wear Daily reported that the great Jean Paul Gaultier helped out with the show-stopping outcome, designing the fuschia love-heart top fit for a Barbie doll.

Click through the gallery below to see all the extraordinary wardrobe and theatrical moments from the one and only Kylie.

Lorde Rocks Matchy-Matchy Proenza Schouler at iHeartRadio Music Festival 2014

Lorde must be spending a lot of time with BFF Taylor Swift, because the New Zealander has stepped out wearing a Swiftian match-matchy ensemble for the 2014 iHeartRadio music festival in Las Vegas on the weekend.

The crop top and high-waisted tapered pants pick from Proenza Schouler‘s Fall 2014 collection was dark and quirky, just like Lorde, with an abstract animal print.

She also tapped into her usual grunge with a pair of shiny black boots and her signature dark-berry lip.

Ouch! Lily Aldridge’s Makeup Is ‘Just Ghastly’ on Allure Russia’s October Cover (Forum Buzz)

After Anna Selezneva‘s fashion-forward cover for the September issue, Allure Russia’s October cover appears to be fairly generic. Lily Aldridge fronts the new issue sporting purple eyeshadow, pink lips and rose blush for the cover image, which could just be any regular candid of the Victoria’s Secret Angel. Lily’s last major fashion magazine cover was back in July 2014 for Vogue Mexico, where the dark-haired beauty looked sensational!

Allure Russia Oct 14 Lily Aldridge

IMAGE: http://ift.tt/1vIN0An

Our forum members certainly aren’t giving the cover rave reviews. “I have a problem with all (or most) covers: I wish they were slightly less zoomed in. I’m a sucker for having close-ups but they overdo it a bit,” wrote KateTheGreatest.

“She’s never been my cup of tea and this isn’t helping. It appears as though there’s a very unattractive pinky, grayish cast to her skin like the makeup artist didn’t have a clue about correctly matching her skin tone, and the dreaded too light under eye concealer look. Reminds me of Bobbi Brown‘s handiwork which is supposed to be oh so natural yet the makeup is always visible and sitting on the skin, and the blatant airbrushing of her pores. Subtlety can go along way…” noted an unsatisfied ellastica.

Also not a fan of the makeup was fashionlover2001, who posted, “Horrible eye makeup job! Just ghastly!”

“It looks like a candid from [the] Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show for me LOL,” joked fluxxx.

“Given their other covers, I think this is Russian Allure‘s definition of a ‘natural look,’” posted tigerrouge.

A few members begged to differ, though. “First AR cover I like in a looong time. Still they can´t go all the way and produce a killer cover imo, this time the pink is overwhelming,” declared kokobombon, indicating Allure Russia’s covers are becoming stronger.

“Wow, a breath of fresh air. No edgy makeup or quirky expressions. Happy for Lily,” raved Benn98.

Vogue Hommes International Changes Its Name, Louis Garrel Snags Latest Cover (Forum Buzz)

Change often fails to go down well in the forums and the latest dissent is over Vogue Hommes International‘s change to the abbreviated Vogue Hommes. The amendment comes after the release of the biannual menswear magazine’s Fall 2014 issue. Louis Garrel was tapped for the cover and was shot by Mario Sorrenti, who photographed the French actor looking nonchalant as he reclined with his hands behind his head, staring down the lens. Anastasia Barbieri styled the 31 year old for the cover shoot.

Members of our forums haven’t responded well to the masthead alteration. “There’s something off with that masthead. I’m not used to seeing the huge HOMMES and the word PARIS is oddly placed below. Will it just be Vogue Hommes or still VHI? The layout reminds me of VP during Carine [Roitfeld], especially Caslon. The cover image itself is okay but it’s not as striking,” commented MON.

“Decent cover, so today, the mag becomes only Vogue Hommes?” added burbuja8910, slightly confused about the name change.

Bertrando3 was quick to post his opinion and wrote, “This looks REALLY average, bad and boring!”

“I was expecting something much more interesting than this… nothing special,” posted an underwhelmed GlamorousBoy.

The masthead change didn’t seem to cross stereo‘s mind, since he was more interested in seeing a model on the cover: “So disappointed! Boring. Bring back the models!”

Although not everyone was against the cover. “I love him, so I totally buy into this. He looks really handsome,” shared an enthusiastic Les Sucettes, whose opinion stood out among the rest.

Fontastic was also eager to get his hands on a copy: “Love Louis!!! Can’t wait to buy it.”

Watch: Rick Owens Doesn’t Sketch or Use Mood Boards

Image: Getty Images

Image: Getty Images

Rick Owens is gearing up to show his Spring 2015 collection in Paris this week and before the designer’s latest hits the catwalk, The New York Times visited him at his studio in Paris. We discover a lot about Owens’ process – he doesn’t sketch anything and he doesn’t use mood boards to lay out his designs.

Owens says his aversion to the designer staple comes from a desire to keep an air of mystery around his works in progress. “A mood board would just explain too much to everybody,” he says. “I don’t want everybody to know what my composition is about and where my references came from. And also, I don’t want the literal example of my references in front of me. I like having references that are vague that I kind of force myself to have to use as a memory instead of a visual example.”

Nail the White-on-White Getup Like Nicole Warne

The white-on-white (or all white errythang, if you will) trend is one of the biggest for the season, but our girl Nicole Warne of Gary Pepper has been rocking the look since way back.

We don’t blame her — the chic elegance of a crisp-white getup is right up her alley, and she nails the clean and minimal aesthetic every time. It’s lucky she does because, honestly, the girls a bit of a fiend for it.

See our favourite all-white looks from Nicole below, and be inspired on how to tackle the trend for yourself all year round.

Giuliana Rancic Sports Willow, Veronika Maine While in Sydney

Guiliana Rancic is in town for Westfield’s #MostHunted Spring 14 campaign, and like a good style ambassador she’s been sporting a mix of Australian labels during her time down under.

We’re thinking Willow could definitely be a favourite of hers, as the TV personality was snapped twice in the Aussie label over the last week. She touched down in Sydney wearing a statement Willow coat, which was styled perfectly with black skinny-leg pants and Azzedine Alaïa pumps.

Giuliana chose Willow again for a cocktail party thrown in her honour at Sydney’s 360 Bar and Dining on Monday night, September 22. She wore a silk-tulle floor-length gown in cayenne red, with simple gold accessories.

For her appearance at Westfield Parramatta yesterday, September 23, Giuliana picked out a cutesy Veronika Maine outfit, its soft-yellow colourway screaming springtime. Fitting really, seeing as the 40-year-old was showcasing Spring 15 trends on the day.

Bottega Veneta Taps Julia Nobis for Knot Fragrance Ad Campaign (Forum Buzz)

Bottega Veneta released a new fragrance and the advertising campaign has just hit our forums. The fragrance entitled Knot is described as a seductive and stylish scent inspired by the Italian Riviera. The brand tapped Australian beauty Julia Nobis to front the fragrance, which hits stores this month. Photographed by David Armstrong wearing a classic black dress with her blond tresses styled in sophisticated, loose waves, Julia also stars in the commercial directed by Axel Lindahl.

Ad Campaign Bottega Veneta Knot Fragrance Julia Nobis

IMAGE: MODELS.COM VIA TFS FORUMS

Members of our forums have mixed reactions about the campaign. “Wow, Julia looks particularly awful here, the styling makes her look aged beyond her years,” commented HeatherAnne, clearly not an admirer of the campaign’s direction.

“So lifeless. That look might work for runways but she should turn it up a bit for a fragrance campaign,” criticized CharlottefromCA.

MyNameIs wasn’t a fan, either and posted, “That image is totally wrong for a perfume ad. It looks so random and unremarkable. Almost like a backstage picture. Julia looks good in the commercial, but not in the picture. They should’ve stuck with the same styling as they had in the commercial.”

“I love the dress and overall design but Julia looks off, the hair for sure looks awful to me but also the sad look on her eyes, maybe?” asked kokobombon.

Benn98 responded: “The dress really is the only redeeming feature of this campaign. I think they must’ve aimed for subtle sensuality as one can see that was achieved in the video, but the shoot doesn’t reflect that at all. It just looks dour. Glad the platinum hair is gone.”

GIVENCHYlover‘s positive comment stood out from the rest: “Sophisticated and delicate. Very Bottega.”

What do you think? Are you a fan of the campaign image? Check out the thread for the commercial and share your own opinion here.

Get the Look: Elle Fanning Debuts Brunette Hair at The Boxtrolls Premiere

Elle Fanning brown hair

Just in time for the start of fall, Elle Fanning dyed her signature platinum blond hair a gorgeous shade of auburn brown, and chopped it into a shoulder-length style. The 16-year-old actress debuted her new sleek hair at the premiere of The Boxtrolls over the weekend in Los Angeles, pairing it with an Oscar de la Renta ensemble. The new look was sophisticated, but she opted for youthful makeup that included a pop of color by way of blue eyeliner. Check out how to get the look below.

Mario Testino Photographs Miranda Kerr for Vogue Japan’s Anniversary Issue (Forum Buzz)

The month of November marks a special occasion for Vogue Japan as the publication celebrates its 15th anniversary. The magazine tapped Miranda Kerr for the cover and commissioned Mario Testino to shoot a large portfolio featuring the Aussie model for a geisha-inspired shoot. The transformation of Miranda isn’t the only thing different as Vogue Japan’s signature white background is absent in favor of a blue/gray backdrop, taking the cover down a different route for the magazine’s celebratory issue.

Vogue Japan November 2014 Miranda Kerr

IMAGE: AMAZON.CO.JP VIA TFS FORUMS

Vogue Japan’s efforts apparently haven’t paid off, though. “I miss the white background. This looks like a diff magazine all over which isn’t that good,” noted MON, clearly not a fan of the dramatic change.

“Is there any chance this is a preview, not a real cover? Vogue Japan is not Vogue Japan without the white backdrop,” exclaimed Srdjan.

“Such a disaster. I wouldn’t blame Testino for it. It’s Kerr and the styling, which doesn’t fit her at all, that cause an eyesore,” added an underwhelmed Kanna.

GivenchyHomme shared the same sentiments and commented, “This looks like a cheap generic magazine. Everything is horrible, especially the model.”

Also not fond of the cover is blueorchid: “I always roll my eyes and think people are being overly-dramatic when they say this, but… this is one of the worst covers I have ever seen.”

“As cliche as it is, I can get past the geisha theme—barely. I think Gemma Ward would have been a much better fit. But either way, if they were going to do this kind of theme, they could have used a model who is actually Japanese,” suggested orchidee.

One of the worst covers ever? Ouch! See inside the thread for a few previews of Miranda’s cover story and join the discussion here.

Pinstripes: The Love List

Stripes are a firm favourite among fashionistas, but this season it’s taking a more subtle approach with the introduction of the pinstripe.

The fine lines have silhouettes looking light and fresh, rather than the usual thick and bold stripes we’re so familiar with. It’s the perfect choice for a chic and classic look, and suitable for both workwear and Sunday lunches.

Check out the gallery below for our favourite pinstripe picks from the web, including flowing dresses, tailored pants, midi skirts and loose camis.

Our 10 Favorite Natural Skincare Brands

We try to maintain healthy lifestyles, but when it comes to skincare, we may be straying away from that philosophy. Many beauty products contain toxins, synthetics and other ingredients that could be doing more harm than good. Thankfully, there are some great brands out there that are mindful of what gets used in specific formulations, while still delivering great results. It’s mostly about what these brands don’t use, however, including parabens, harsh chemicals and fillers. Check out our favorites below.
