Jeremy Scott Takes Sportswear to a New Level of Wacky for Fall 2014 (Runway Review)

The Scene: Jared Leto caused a near frenzy in the front row. Will he be wearing one of the collection's colorfully furry jerseys in the near future? We sure hope so. Also in attendance was Joe Jonas (at this point it would almost be easier to count the shows he did not attend), while Gigi Hadid opened and closed the show.

The Inspiration: A witty take on athletic apparel.

The Look: Love it or hate it, the fuzzy sportswear that Jeremy Scott showed this season was undeniably original. The designer reinvented the jersey by turning it into furry tops and one-pieces for both men and women. Also in the mix were lace-up leggings, semi-sheer long sleeved dresses, very revealing one-piece leotards, a slew of knits that looked like they were fashioned to mimic gym socks, mesh dresses and tops, bra tops, outerwear mimicking a basketball, white corset tops and prints included psychedelic geometric ones, grotesque oversized cartoon characters and even a Band-Aid theme. It all made for a collection that was a bit too East Village Halloween parade. Sure the looks were unique, but it's hard to imagine the collection will hold appeal for even the most daring shopper.

The Accessories: In collaboration with adidas, the designer showed sneaker stilettos, deconstructed over-the-knee boots that looked like shinguards/leg protectors along with black and white pointed pumps (think soccer ball).

The Beauty: Because there was so much going on with the clothes, beauty was toned down. Makeup was kept natural, while conditioning treatment and mousse were used by the Weleda hair team to give hair a post-shower wet look. (Read more about the beauty look here).

The Takeaway: Jeremy Scott's collections are always out-of-the-box, but this season was a little too costume to be a knockout success.
