Emanuel Ungaro’s Rather Rosy Outlook for Fall 2014 (Runway Review)

The Inspiration: A critter exploring a rose garden along with extreme sex appeal.

The Look: Roses, animals and sheer, oh my! Ungaro's latest collection consisted of ruminations on those three themes. Blush-colored cartoon roses appeared on bomber jackets and prim dresses, colored fur accented a modern coat and dotted sheer fabric forced a variety of garments into the ultra-sexy zone. While the latter concept mostly worked — straight-up sheer tops with censored breast panels — the first dress, where a criss-crossed black "X" was designed to meet the dress half-way, was a real recipe for complete nip-slip disaster. It really worked, though, on an oversized, collared midi dress where the solid form of a one shoulder dress met the sheer, polka dotted fabric to form the finished silhouette. It's an unusual look, but ultimately pretty cool. The rose pattern wasn't anything new, but it was pretty successful on a number of pieces, especially in variations on the theme.

The Accessories: Heeled booties made of lace were the real standouts.

The Beauty: The "no-makeup" makeup look and sleek hair that's also just a little messy.

The Takeaway: A rose is most definitely a rose this season at Ungaro.
