This week we got ready for New York Fashion Week, gushed about the couture shows and bought some hair oil.

Across the pond in Paris, London, Milan and back again, the show-going set at Fashion Week found a new way to keep warm this season by cleverly fashioning their coats into makeshift capes slung around their shoulders. Women around the globe are skipping sleeves in favor of a slung-jacket look and finding that the chicest way to wear a coat is to not. Draped over shoulders, whether it be a leather moto, knee-length wool overcoat, varsity bomber or denim jacket, this smart styling trick was first spotted on editors and stylists before the craze swept the nation. With very little effort, this coat-as-cape look elevates everyday ensembles to give your overall outfit nonchalant appeal. We’re just not sure if this shoulder draping stays put when needed, but it sure does make for a fashionable photo opp.

Separate pouches for your cosmetics (or other teeny little things you don't want getting lost in your massive handbag) isn't exactly a new concept, but we're thinking more about it lately as other New Year's resolutions start to fall by the wayside. Getting our crap organized is actually pretty easy—and of course we're going to want to look cool doing it. See below for 10 great designer-y finds that will make the inner-bag search for your lipstick du jour a total breeze.

Muriel Alt was due December 2, 1960. She delivered a baby girl one day earlier: December 1. This should come as no surprise to anyone who knows her daughter, Supermodel (with a capital “S”) Carol Alt. Throughout her career spanning over three decades, she's always wanted to be first, driven by a pioneering passion to create and innovate.
“What inspires me?” Alt rhetorically muses. “Creating a new path for models and being the first to do something big. I love the creativity of it all. I choose projects I love and I put all my energy into them.”
Alt was first discovered waiting tables at a Long Island restaurant, one of the many odd jobs she took to save money for college. The day after she signed with Elite Agency, the 18-year-old found herself modeling for Harper’s Bazaar Italy, a far cry from the job prospects in Queens, NY. Since then, she's graced the cover of over 500 magazines (including 1982’s Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue), starred on both big and small screens, and was the first model to produce her own posters and calendars (a move strongly discouraged by her agency at the time). That list barely scratches the surface.
“I look at myself as the Babe Ruth of modeling – I swing at anything!” Alt laughs. As of last September, she can add television host to her resume, a new passion fueled quite literally by her dedication to health, wellness and a raw food diet. A Healthy You & Carol Alt, a weekly 30-minute TV program on Fox News, is the culmination of years of personal health struggles. “When I was modeling, I was barely making it through the day,” she says. “With three jobs a day, seven days a week, I just had no energy. I wasn’t social, I wasn’t political, I wasn’t myself.”
Today, a raw food diet is a relatively familiar term but when Alt adopted the diet in the early 80s, it was quite radical. She didn’t tell friends and family about her new regimen at first, but people started commenting on her energy, her skin and overall glow. “My mother thought I got a facelift!” Alt recalls with a chuckle. “I realized my passion for eating raw was a platform for me to communicate and educate. Plus I started to get a little sick of everyone asking me about it, so I wrote a book!”
Three books, to be exact. Her show takes these books to the next level, with guest professionals, celebrities and everyday people sharing their health and wellness tips, tricks and personal journeys. “It’s been inspiring to know I’m not just one voice in the wind screaming against a hurricane,” Alt says. “I’ve had so many doctors help me – who’ve saved my life, really – and I hope my show is a way to pay that forward.”
Through her various projects, Alt has accumulated a mass of fans who follow her (on Twitter, among other platforms) and she takes that responsibility very seriously. She’s had insanely lucrative offers to do appearances plugging Botox, starring in cigarette campaigns (she doesn’t smoke) and promoting makeup lines chock full of chemicals, but declined anything that threatens her image as a health and wellness role model. “It’s important for me to be congruent,” she says. “Believe me, I’m not easy. My manager has been through hell and back with me!”
“I’ve always gone against the grain, always been contrary,” says Alt. “If you follow the beaten path, it’s boring because someone’s already done it! Sure, you get hard knocks along the way but it’s important to look for new things. It’s always worth it.”

You can always count on Elie Saab to deliver classic red carpet stunners. Though he has dabbled in short dresses and daywear, it's his glamorous gowns that always stand out and this season came exclusively with his signature Oscar worthy looks.
Titled “The Promise of Spring," there were plenty of bright designs in the all-evening lineup, which was inspired by Pre-Raphaelite painter Lawrence Alma-Tadema. The inspiration translated into fabric petals and other floral embellishments and appliqués on his languid gowns. Perhaps there was nothing groundbreaking, but for a strikingly beautiful, timeless gown, a woman need look no further.

Karl Lagerfeld showed this season’s Chanel couture collection in what he called “a futuristic nightclub.” In the future, it seems sportswear will reign as the collection was rife with sneakers, sporty accessories like fanny packs, knee pads and elbow pads, nipped waists, drawstrings and, of course, lots of metallic accents topped the designer's candy colored creations.
While some of the collection did feel repetitive – there were over sixty looks – there was no denying the appeal of Lagerfeld’s detailed, but easy-to-wear and undeniably elegant, pieces (even the haute couture trainers, which will undoubtedly be one of the season's ultimate status symbols).

Agent Provocateur has gone all Stepford wife for its new spring/summer campaign, bringing to life the distorted fantasy world of a suburban housewife.
Of course, that is if every bored housewife cavorts around the house in colour popping silk satin and red lace. That is what Agent Provocateur would like us to think, enlisting the help of photographer Miles Aldridge who seemed all too happy to help to bring one of his own personal dreams.
“Shooting with Agent Provocateur was like a childhood dream come true where I drop by unannounced on a school friend to find his mother home hovering in the kitchen in just her lingerie. These sensations from early adolescence run through all my work, like the pink sugar writing inside a piece of well sucked Brighton rock, except the endless word in my rock is woman, woman, woman, woman, woman.”
Taking on the role of the ‘wives’ is Hailey Clanson who can be seen washing floors in a violet plunge bra as well as taking up a spot of hoovering in a black sheer number. The 18-year-old model has stepped into some well trodden heels for the lingerie brand, following the likes of Karen Elson, Kate Moss and Daria Werbowy.
Creative director Sarah Shotten loves the characters that Clanson embodies saying that she was "interested in the irony behind the idea of the ‘Perfect’ woman, unfazed by the everyday pressures of life. Our campaign girl has it all, she’s a lady in the street and a wildcat in the bedroom and the collection mirrors her pretty perfection."
Whether the perfect woman can be found at home or not, she certainly looks powerful here.

If you’re familiar with London’s fashion and design scene, you’re probably familiar with Spring Studios. If you attended Calvin Klein’s show last season, you’re most likely familiar with Spring’s NYC outpost. But come this New York Fashion Week Fall 2014, there’s virtually no way this place will escape your radar.
Spring Studios will play host to no less than six shows this season, including Calvin Klein, Diane von Furstenberg and Michael Kors. Being the fashion busybody I am, I ventured downtown to the still-very-raw space on 7 St. John’s Lane (between Beach and Laight Streets) for a hardhat tour.
“The space is coincidentally perfect for runway shows,” says Alice Barlow in Spring Studios’ Event Programming. With two separate entrances (VIP/talent entering on St. John’s Lane and general public entering through 50 Varick St.), a labyrinth of hidden hallways, floor-to-ceiling windows and a super solid WiFi game (the building is shared with Verizon, which provides wireless service to most of NYC), she’s spot on.
“Right now, we’re focusing on quality over quantity,” Barlow says of capping their NYFW show count at six. It’s a smart move, considering the final Spring Studios won’t open until this summer. When it does, it will feature 7 studios, a cinema space for film screenings, full restaurant headed by Michelin Star Chef David Waltuck and the most colossal roof you’ve ever set foot on.
“This is the most colossal roof I’ve ever set foot on,” I muttered under my breath, to which Barlow replied, “Yes, it is. It’s the largest public roof in New York right now.” With a 650-person capacity, the roof will eventually be able to host runway shows, massive afterparties and full-blown events. New York Fashion Week may never be the same.

Ah, the men's shows. In Paris of all places. The scene outside the shows? Littered with great-looking male models in effortless-cool gear. And the show-goers? They're not too hard on the eyes either—dudes of every sartorial stripe dressed to the nines and ready for the street style camera (even if their facial expression screams "whatever.") Click through for the best snaps of both the audience and the models off duty.

When we think of hairspray, the images that come to mind are typically pageant queens sprayed and shellacked into having Texas-sized tresses, but today's sprays are actually less inclined to leave you with garish gunk in your higher-than-heaven hair and more apt to leave you with a light hold and a smooth finish for flyaways. We sprayed, we smelled and we shook many cans of hairspray to crown the winner of this contest. Here are our picks for the best and worst hairsprays:
Though January can be a stale month for shoppers with winter racks picked over, a new year also signals the chance to start anew, to clear out the old and begin with a fresh perspective. If you’re tired of browsing the sales stock from the previous season for some style inspiration, get a jumpstart on your annual wardrobe detox to declutter your closet and make way for new purchases come spring. While a total wardrobe revamp isn’t always realistic (though we wish it were!), there are still plenty of pieces and undying trends to hang on to and carry in to 2014. Though we want to keep it all, it’s also time to part with those sartorial choices that went against our better judgment and found their way into our closets. It’s not that we don’t necessarily like these looks; they’re just looking a little tired with everyone from street style stars to the girl next door sporting them non-stop throughout the past year. And if you seem to be impatiently looking forward to spring, there are some buy-now-wear-now basics you can prep your wardrobe with so you’re well stocked and prepared when warmer weather hits.
Get ready to shed some wardrobe weight and find out just what to keep, toss and buy this year.

If you are a gadget junkie, the Consumer Electronics Show may just be your wonderland. We attended CES last week in Las Vegas, armed with comfortable shoes and wide, excited eyes. There was a lot to see, a lot that blew our minds, and even a few things we can kinda sorta afford. (It's true!)

Everyone goes gaga over the snaps of off-duty female models in New York, Paris, Milan and London for good reason, but today we're shifting the focus to the off-duty male models. Well-dressed dudes to ogle—what more do you need? Ahead: crazy-cute snaps of all the hard-working male models of Milan.
We love our mini skirts and dresses, truth be told. They're sexy, sassy and give us an excuse to wear our favorite heels. But there's a new dress length that's taking street style—and ours—by storm. The midi dress not only lends an air of respectability to our feminine inclinations, it also holds its own in the category of sexiness. How so?
Think of it like this: What better way to show off the most intoxicating curves on a woman, the all-powerful waist-to-hip-ratio, than to drape yourself in fabric that runs the length of your body? What can be more feminine than showing off your waist? Whether it's fit-and-flare or full on bodycon, this is the style to get you noticed in 2014. From animal print and lacy racy necklines to boho style and ladylike cuts, let your styling fantasies run wild with our picks of the best midi dresses for every occasion.

For a long time, logos were the brash indicator of wealth—so much so that when the ball finally dropped (and you couldn't walk a block without being assaulted with logo after luxury logo), the backlash was brutal. Minimalism is the new name of the game. While that is appealing, there is also something to be said of the logo item done right—in an ironic way or a quirky way or done with enough care and thought to put any "show-off" reactions to the side. Ahead: 10 items that are making us embrace the logoed-out look.

Sure there's a $1200 office chair you're lusting after to perfect your office space. But is your boss likely to let you order it out of the Office Depot Catalog guarded by his secretary? No. Are you going to buy it? Probably not. Is all lost when it comes to making your space your own while keeping it professional? Definitely not.
Turns out there's scores of colorful desk accessories and office supplies with a cheeky, chic and feminine vibe that allow you to put your personal stamp on your cube or office. A set of white erasers molded into skyscrapers is a must-have and blows the old school pink erasers from third grade (that Office Max still sells) out of the water. Who needs manilla file folders and envelopes when they're available in cool geo patterns and styles? And why not display those books you bought to help you sell, sell, sell on your desk so the VP can see them when she walks by? You'll need a set of bookends for that.
You get the point. Check out some of the best, affordable accessories to start off your new year in the right direction. Now you can feel just a little more at home once you've set down your coffee and settled into the office furniture your company supplies.
The fall runways were rife with red carpet-ready dresses vying to make their spotlight debut on the award circuit this season. With show-stealing potential, each of these dresses is bound to be worn by the biggest and brightest celebrities in Tinseltown in the coming months. From Zac Posen’s signature old Hollywood elegance to Badgley Mischka’s megawatt sparkle, jaw-dropping drama is only a dress away for these starlets.
While we wait with bated breath to see who’s wearing what, take a look at some of the most glamorous gowns we hope finally receive their major moment in front of the flashbulbs.

We have a feeling we can probably guess the contents of your New Year's Resolution list. It probably involves a lot of salads and gym time, no? Taking care of yourself in moderation is important, but we've got another topic on the brain for resolution-making: fashion. We're mostly happy with what we bought and loved and understood from fashion in 2013, but looking back, we see places where some definite improvements could be made. This year, we're resolving to spend smarter, take risks while maintaining our own personal style, and throwing the weird concept of "flattering" right out the window. 2014, we are so ready for you and your upcoming sartorial glory.
