No Surprise Here: Karmen Pedaru Stars in Michael Kors’ Spring 2015 Campaign (Forum Buzz)

Michael Kors sure does have his favorite campaign girls. Carmen Kass starred in the New York-based brand’s campaigns for nine consecutive seasons (and starred in many more before that). But since Spring 2011, Karmen Pedaru has been Kors’ model of choice. The usual concept of traveling luxury echoes throughout the designer’s new Spring 2015 fashion spots as the first image captures the Estonian beauty standing on a sailboat wearing a spectacular floral dress while looking out to sea — living the dream!

Ad Campaign Michael Kors Spring 2015 Mario Testino

IMAGE: FASHIONWEEKDAILY.COM

Are Kors’ campaigns in need of a shake-up? Our forum members sure think so. “Eeecckk, I’m not sure. I like the look, but not the image. Hopefully the others will be better. Time for MK to get some new blood,” commented Benn98, who set a fire under the discussion.

“His collections have gotten better, but his campaigns are still rubbish,” added HeatherAnne.

Also sharing the same feelings was gossiping, who expressed, “This is so overdone now .. yawn!”

“That preview looks exactly the same [as] the previous campaigns with Carmen Kass,” noted burbuja8910.

“HATE IT. Not only am I terribly bored of Karmen for MK, but the ads could literally not be any more monotone season to season. But this shot is particularly unfortunate. The hair in the face, the ugly (and ill fitting?) dress, the awkward pose. Just no,” disapproved MyNameIs, clearly unimpressed with the fashion spots this time around.

But not everyone was completely dissatisfied. “This is fantastic! Hope the rest of the campaign is just as good!” raved justaguy.

‘Sexy’ Is the Theme for Adriana Lima’s LOVE Advent Short

When you look like Adriana Lima, people will forgive you for starring in a Christmas Eve video that isn’t even festive. It’s just the way the world works. For one of LOVE magazine’s last entries on its advent calendar, the model whips her wet hair and writhes on the ground in a simple black leotard as the camera runs in reverse. This seems to be a theme LOVE has really enjoyed on this advent calendar. Gigi Hadid starred in a similarly-shot short for the magazine earlier this week with the same director, Daniel Jackson.

Watch Adriana, the non-festive sexpot, in the video above.

Sophie Monk Chimes in on Benji and Cameron Diaz’ Rumoured Engagement

If anyone knows what it’s like to be engaged to Benji Madden, it’s our own Sophie Monk. In an interview with Sydney Confidential , the 35-year-old entertainment personality chimed in on her ex-fiancée’s new rumoured engagement to Cameron Diaz, and it came across a little calculated.

“I remember being in Year 8 or something and looking up to Cameron and going ‘wow, one day I want to be funny and be in the industry,’ so it’s kind of cool,” Sophie said, highlighting the 8-year age difference between Benji, 35, and Cameron, 43.

Sophie, who is the same age as the Good Charlotte singer, started a relationship with Benji in 2006, was engaged to him in 2007, but the pair parted ways in 2008. Despite their differences, Sophie claims she wants the best for her ex. “I want him to be happy, so if he’s found someone that makes him happy that’s awesome.’’

Six years later, she also decided to admit that the broken engagement was her doing. “We broke off the engagement … I chose not to get married,” she told Sydney Confidential. However, she chose to get engaged again three years later to millionaire Jimmy Esebag who, mind you, happened to be 20 years her senior.

Much like Benji, her engagement with Jimmy also didn’t work out as she’s currently single. Apparently she’s on Tinder, though, so a new relationship could be on the cards soon.

Terry Biviano’s 40th Birthday Looked Like the Most Lavish Event Ever

Terry Biviano has just turned 40 and, like the Queen WAG she is, celebrated in true style over the weekend. The shoe designer and wife to sports star Anthony Minichiello, toasted the milestone with a lavish rooftop do at Sydney’s Museum of Contemporary Art, complete with a lit-up ‘Terry’ sign.

She showed her guests (and 16,800 Instagram followers) that age is just a number, in a revealing sheer-nude gown with black lace detailing by Pallas Couture.

As if the glamorous night didn’t give her enough to be grateful for, her 34-year-old hubby hashtagged his feelings for Terry on Instagram as an icing on the birthday cake. “My baby’s #40th best night ever! #mylove #mywife #bestmummyever,” he wrote, alongside a photo of the couple dancing the night away, beverages in hand.

Looks like all her birthday wishes came true. Congrats, Terry!

Watch: Lindsay Lohan Shakes It for LOVE’s Advent Calendar

We think day 17 of LOVE‘s advent calendar has to be the most glorious. Previous days have provided us with dance numbers from the likes of Kendall and Kris Jenner, Hailey Baldwin and Suki Waterhouse, but we think today’s installation has got to be our favorite. Lindsay Lohan was tapped to do a little jig for director Liz Collins.

We watch Lindsay shaking her stuff in nary but a bra, a cozy-looking cardigan and tube socks, before giving us a little military-inspired tease in a button-festooned jacket (with nothing underneath), black trousers and pumps. It’s a glimpse at the old school Lindsay we miss so much, and we are so grateful to Katie Grand for bringing one of our tabloid faves to our holiday festivities.

Does Sienna Miller Deserve Yet Another Cover of Vogue Magazine? (Forum Buzz)

We’re often left hanging when it comes to U.S. Vogue‘s upcoming issue, but this time around we’ve seen it pretty quickly. The magazine’s January cover surfaced on our forums over the weekend and we are currently debating Anna Wintour’s choice of cover subject. Sienna Miller stars on Vogue‘s first issue of 2015, shot by Mario Testino (who also photographed Sienna for Vogue‘s now famous September 2007 issue), with Tonne Goodman on styling duty. Goodman selected an eye-catching Burberry trench for the Foxcatcher actress to showcase, but with uninspiring results.

Members of our forums aren’t exactly pleased with Sienna’s latest Vogue cover. “Her second January cover? Oh Anna. Not a good start to the year. I don’t like the red. And what’s with these hat covers? Taylor, Gwen, now her,” commented Benn98, questioning Sienna’s fourth cover for the magazine.

“This isn’t very fashion to me. It looks more like Good Housekeeping magazine, not Vogue,” slammed valliaddict.

Urban Stylin wondered, “Is there a clause that she must always be photographed by Mario Testino?”

“It’s funny, I remember her name but I always forget her face. I have no idea in which movies she’s [in] or if I’ve ever seen her in a movie. She’s that forgettable. This cover is bad. Red and blue are an awful combination. And why her and not someone more exciting? Oh well, I do remember that Anna likes her a lot,” posted anlabe32, sharing her disappointment.

“I hate everything about it. The coat and hat don’t go together and swallow her up, her expression is unsure. So so disappointed,” wrote gazebo.

“Enough of the generic blonde actresses and the same models every month. FIRE ANNA!” demanded HeatherAnne.

Also not having any of it was A.D.C., who asked, “Would any other American magazine give Sienna Miller a cover in 2015?” hinting Vogue‘s on a downward spiral.

Shu Qi’s Vogue China Cover Stirs a Ton of Debate (Forum Buzz)

Vogue China’s January cover surfaced on our forums a few days ago and forum members are currently voicing their opinions inside the thread. Shu Qi was tapped by the magazine to star on its January 2015 cover and was captured by Chinese photographer Chen Man in Paris. The Transporter actress posed underneath the cloudy gray skies of the French capital wearing an elegant outfit from Ralph Lauren. But the real question is: Are our forum members impressed?

Vogue China January 2015 Shu Qi

IMAGE: INSTAGRAM/VOGUECHINAMAGAZINE VIA TFS FORUMS

“Stunning pose and glorious colors. A very appropriate shot to kick off the year. But I must say, the dress looks so cheap! It’s the material I guess,” commented Benn98, uncertain about the Ralph Lauren dress Shu wears.

“Halter tops always look cheap IMO but I do like the cover,” replied A.D.C.

GlamorousBoy made it clear that he’s not an admirer of the dress by writing, “That dress looks soooo cheap!”

The rest of us, however, approve of Vogue China’s efforts this month. “This is bloody amazing. It could be a little less purple, but still wonderful!” enthused VogueDisciple93.

“This is gorgeous, it definitely catches my attention,” shared an enthusiastic KateTheGreatest.

“I love this cover, she looks beautiful OMG, sooo soft yet strong commanding pose, pastel colors, great sexy pose yet sultry, very great shot and cover worthy,” raved a more than satisfied Bertrando3.

Also full of praise was Miss Dalloway: “Stunning cover. Chen Man always shoots beautiful covers for them.”

Inside Noor Fares’ New Fine Jewellery Collection Launch

This week, we had the pleasure of being invited to London’s renowned Dover Street Market in the exclusive Mayfair area to view the latest collection from jewellery designer Noor Fares.

Designer Noor chatting to guests

The London-based designer established her own line in 2009 and her designs are often influenced by her Lebanese heritage and extensive worldly travels. Her modern twists on mythical themes have already stolen the hearts of many a famous face, including singer Ellie Goulding and model Suki Waterhouse, who can be counted amongst her many fans.

Her latest collection is an extension of her Fly Me to the Moon collection, inspired by Glyptique carvings, and features beautiful rings and earpieces finished with diamonds set within precious stones.

tfs 2

It’s also an evolution of her Tilsam story, which was first presented earlier this year as part of her degree collection for her MA at London’s prestigious Central Saint Martins. Noor has always been fascinated by the mystical quality of talismans and the range features rings and pendants carved in clear quartz, moonstone, rose quartz and labradorite. Amongst our favourite pieces were the Armilliea pendants, inspired by astrological influences and echoing the cool historical instruments.

As we wandered around creating a mental wishlist, we were treated to very cool beverages from The Herball in the form of rose and crystal quartz infused champagne, complemented by a spritz of Noor’s unique herbal fragrance upon serving.

Retailers Are Collecting Your Data to Make Shopping More Personal

Image: WENN

Image: WENN

Retailers these days are getting all up in your biznazz, but don’t worry — it’s just because they want you to buy more of their stuff. The Business of Fashion reports that the growing trend in retail is gathering information on customers to create unique, curated shops to entice the shopper on a personal level.

Web analytics seems to be a huge part of this with retailers using data like location, personal taste and past purchases to create a specific shopping experience for customers. On the Internet, e-tailers like Net-a-Porter are using this information to build custom stores for each customer, though there is hope that this data can translate in real life. Burberry’s app allows shop staff to store data on each customer like past purchases in order to help better pinpoint what each customer wants and how to sell it to them. Rebecca Minkoff’s connected SoHo flagship has a similar program. It can keep tabs on what items you buy, or even just try on without purchasing. It is all about collecting the right amount of data, so stores can have a more accurate profile of consumers.

Though data collection on the Internet isn’t a new thing, retailers are now trying to bring that experience to life both online and in stores. Of course, for all you Ron Swanson types out there, this method could sound a little invasive. But it looks like you’ll have to get used to it because retailers will do anything to increase sales, and if gathering information on your past purchases is what it takes to sell you another blouse, so be it.

A Makeup-Free Julia Roberts Unexpectedly Lands Givenchy’s Spring 2015 Ad Campaign (Forum Buzz)

Are celebrities the new models? Madonna stars in Versace’s Spring 2015 advertising campaign and now Givenchy has tapped Julia Roberts for its brand new campaign, released earlier today via Style.com. Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, the Turkish duo and long-term favorites of Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci, captured the Pretty Woman actress with no makeup and posing without flashing her signature million-dollar smile as she showcased Tisci’s coveted collection for the luxury French brand.

Ad Campaign Givenchy Spring 2015 Julia Roberts

IMAGE: STYLE.COM VIA TFS FORUMS

Naturally, our forum members are voicing their opinions inside the thread with mixed reactions. “I find her to be a great choice. Totally unexpected and I like it,” shared a surprised happytrail, who kicked us off on a positive note.

“Love this! Love Julia! Older women fronting major campaigns, should be the norm,” added mepps, also showing enthusiasm toward the campaign.

But the images aren’t sitting well with the rest of us and leave us disappointed. “What a surprise!! So happy to see Julia here, she rarely does fashion campaigns but the result is less exciting,” commented an underwhelmed chanelh.

“That’s totally unexpected… But I don’t think Julia really fits for a Givenchy campaign,” agreed Oxymore.

Ortemis certainly disapproved: “T.e.r.r.i.b.l.e. She made Madonna’s Versace campaign look like it came from heaven.”

Also sharing the same sentiments was Benn98, who exclaimed, “Ugh, another one!! What is this?? Ann Taylor or St. John?? The image is OK, but NOT suitable for a Givenchy campaign. I hope there will be more girls because Julia is just underwhelming for me. Why is Tisci trying to sell her as a catch, she books Marie Claire for Christ sake. That ‘American Sweetheart’ tagline is no longer relevant to her, that was many years ago! Oh and by the way, booking an anti-fashion actress isn’t exactly a novel move.”

Are you excited to see Julia land Givenchy’s ad campaign? Check out some more images and share your own opinion inside the thread here.

10 Things You Didn’t Know About Karl Lagerfeld

via theFashionSpot » Runway News http://ift.tt/12F5XYi

Karl Lagerfeld

He’s not tweeting right now.

Photo: Getty Images

Few designers are as quotable as Karl Lagerfeld. In fact, there are entire webpages devoted to the designer’s quips. At 81, Lagerfeld is arguably bigger than ever as he continues to helm his own label, along with Chanel and Fendi, while hitting the party circuits and staying on top of a never-ending marketing machine, which includes Karlito bag charms and collector edition Lagerfeld Barbies. Not one to shy away from an interview, here’s a look at 10 things you may not know about the white-haired designer.

  1. Hedi Slimane’s designs inspired him to lose weight. Before being introduced to Slimane, Lagerfeld was “extra-large.” According to New York magazine, the designer became so enamored with Slimane and his work that it sparked an obsession with losing weight. Not only did Lagerfeld end up losing 90 pounds on a low-calorie diet, he wrote a book about it.

  2. He has contradictory views on social media. The fitting rooms in the designer’s London namesake flagship come equipped with selfie-ready iPads preloaded with Lagerfeld-inspired photo filters. Ironically, the designer — who has pioneered all sorts of luxury accessories for mobile devices — has said that he doesn’t understand social networks and hates selfies. “Those social networks, there’s something sad about them. Is it because they don’t have enough knowledge about friends and people? I don’t understand it. It’s like a talkative mirror where people talk to themselves. And what I hate most in life is selfies,” he once told WWD . In another interesting move for someone who isn’t into tech, the designer launched emotiKarl, an emoji app, to promote his latest fragrance.

  3. He directed a movie with Pharrell Williams. The film made its debut last week. Filmed in Paris, the film also includes Cara Delevingne and 6-year-old Hudson Kroenig.

  4. He doesn’t want you to buy him a coffee table book. You’d think that a man so into aesthetics would have a soft spot for beautiful coffee table books; not the case. The designer told WWD that books aren’t meant to look like gravestones on a table. “A book,” he said, “has to be easy to open and you don’t have to be a bodybuilder to lift it. I like books I can read in bed. Those big tombstones would kill me.”

  5. He’s collaborating with Justin Bieber. According to Justin’s Instagram, big things are coming from the unlikely duo.

  6. He is addicted to Pepsi. In fact, not only is Lagerfeld addicted to Pepsi, according to Page Six, he keeps a butler on hand to follow him around at parties with a goblet of Pepsi Max on a silver tray.

  7. He thinks his cat is the most beautiful in the world. By now, the world at large is familiar with Lagerfeld’s cat Choupette. So recognizable is his cat in fact that Shu Uemura’s holiday collection, called Shupette, is fronted by the white Siamese cat. While the designer has had dogs in the past, he now prefers cats as they don’t require being walked on the street or having a country house. “I cannot walk in the street anymore. I mean, you know, in the age of cell phones, forget about it. In the city, cats are very easy to keep, because they are so clean. She is the most beautiful cat in the world,” he revealed in an interview with Jessica Chastain.

  8. He’s had his signature ponytail since 1976. In the inaugural issue of quarterly men’s magazine M, the designer revealed that in the 70s he grew tired of having long, curly hair, so he pulled it back into a ponytail and that’s been his signature hairstyle ever since. It was 1995 when his hair turned ashy gray and, because he doesn’t like hair products, the only thing he uses to style his hair is Klorane dry shampoo.

  9. He wanted to become a cartoonist, but thought he’d make more money in fashion. The designer has said that he hoped to become a cartoon artist, but that he always loved fashion and thought he could make a better living pursuing that career path. Interestingly for a designer at the helm of two of the world’s biggest luxury brands, when he first began his career his mother told him, “Oh, it is good, it shows that you are not a snob because otherwise you would never do a job like this.”

  10. He has no time for alcohol. Claiming that he falls asleep instantly when he drinks, the designer stays away from alcohol. He also claims to stay away from cigarettes because he needs his hands “for sketching,” and attributes his ageless skin to washing it every day before bed, according to ELLE .

The Los Angeles Film Critics Association just unveiled its award winners for this year, and the list features quite a few of the New York Film Critics Circle’s picks. Both awards are noted Oscar predictors, so the similarity of the honorees lends even more credence to possible Oscar nominations in several categories. Unlike other awards, however, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association also breaks down the runners-up in the main categories.

Boyhood once again nabbed best picture with director Richard Linklater scoring a best director nod. Patricia Arquette was also nominated, but in the best actress category as opposed to her previous win in the best supporting actress field for the same role. Flashback: Kim Kardashian’s 5 Best Fashion Magazine Covers

Seemingly everywhere, the ubiquitous Kim Kardashian currently stars on British ELLE‘s January 2015 issue and is still making headlines for her appearance on Paper‘s Winter 2014 cover. Since there’s no escape from her media presence, we thought we’d join in the fun with a look back at some of the reality TV star’s best and most memorable magazine covers, in this week’s Fashion Flashback.

5. Harper’s Bazaar March 2011 by Terry Richardson

We’re surprised Kim hasn’t fronted more issues of U.S. Harper’s Bazaar, actually. Back in 2011, the magazine scored the middle Kardashian sister wearing a festive red dress, shot by controversial photographer Terry Richardson. Kim posed as Cleopatra inside the issue and was even interviewed by her idol, Elizabeth Taylor. It may not be her best, but we’ll certainly remember those awfully tacky shots of Kim as Cleopatra.

A Mixed Style Offering at Last Night’s Dirty Dancing Sydney Premiere

Festive Holiday Dresses to Get the Party Started

The holidays are a time of giving thanks, sharing love and shopping like an infomercial addict with a trigger-happy remote. Before you go nuts snatching up one deal after another (you don’t actually want peppermint stripe Hanky Pankys, do you?), you’ve got to take care of some serious business. What are you going to wear to your office Santa swap? How about your in-laws’ shindig at that fancy-pants restaurant you can never remember the name of? Or the charity gala you bought a ticket for without realizing it was, dare we say, black tie? You need holiday dresses, and you need them fast. Time is ticking, and the party circuit waits for no one.

Karlie Kloss Poses with Jason Wu for the Designer’s Spring 2015 Ad Campaign (Forum Buzz)

She may be in London flaunting her toned physique for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, but Karlie Kloss’ latest advertising campaign for Jason Wu surfaced earlier today. The 6-foot-1-inch model reclines with the designer for his Spring 2015 fashion spots, captured by Dutch photographic duo Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. We’re certainly used to seeing Wu star in his own campaigns since he’s previously been shot alongside models Adriana Lima for Fall 2014, Karen Elson for Spring 2014 and with Stephanie Seymour back in Spring 2013.

Ad Campaign Jason Wu Spring 2015 Karlie Kloss

Even with the presence of a beauty like Karlie, our forum members set their sights on Wu. “Awful hair. And Jason does not really have a face that I’d like to see in an ad campaign,” exclaimed an unimpressed anlabe32.

“Yeah, get yourself out of the ad, it’s obnoxious and stupid,” replied gazebo, sharing the same sentiments.

“He looks like a midget in that shot. Why does he have to be in the campaign? He’s not Tom Ford. Poor Karlie getting that hideous haircut,” agreed jj36.

Also feeling the same way was Nepenthes: “I was wondering when Karlie would show up in a Jason Wu campaign. The hair is weird but she looks great and so do the clothes. Jason really needs to stop featuring himself in his campaigns, though, it’s getting a bit ridiculous. It feels like less of a high end ad and more of a magazine feature.”

Do you think the designer should remove himself from his own campaigns? Is it only OK when Ford does it? Add your two cents and see another campaign image inside the thread here.

And the New York Film Critics Circle Award Goes to…

Marion Cotillard at the AFI Fest Screening of Two Days, One Night

Image: FayesVision/WENN.com

The New York Film Critics Circle released its annual list of award winners yesterday and there were some surprising results. Best picture went to Boyhood, with its star Patricia Arquette scoring the win for her supporting actress performance and Richard Linklater earning best director honors. Marion Cotillard actually picked up the best actress award for her work in two films, The Immigrant and Two Days, One Night. Best actor went to Timothy Spall for his turn in Mr. Turner, while best supporting actor was awarded to J.K. Simmons for Whiplash.

Other winners included The Grand Budapest Hotel for best screenplay, The LEGO Movie for best animated film, Darius Khondji as best cinematographer for The Immigrant, Ida for best foreign film, Citizenfour for best non-fiction film (documentary), Jennifer Kent received best first film for The Babadook and a special award was given to Adrienne Mancia.

These awards are often an early indicator for Oscar nominations, so it will be interesting to see if any of the winners end up earning nods. The New York Film Critics Circle Awards will be officially distributed in a ceremony on January 5 in New York City.

Since When Have Vogue Turkey’s Covers Become So Dated? (Forum Buzz)

Lily Donaldson makes a rare appearance on the cover of Vogue Turkey’s December issue. It feels as though we hardly ever get to see the British beauty on the cover of Vogue lately, even though Lily’s last cover was for Vogue Korea’s 18th anniversary issue back in August 2014. We’re just nostalgic for those days when the 27 year old would captivate us on U.K. Vogue‘s front cover. But we don’t hold Lily responsible for this current disaster. It appears as though Vogue Turkey has been disappointing our forum members for some time now. The new font and layout the magazine has introduced isn’t sitting well with anyone.

“Lily is working it, but my god that text layout! When did they start using so much of it?!” questioned an unsatisfied Miss Dalloway.

Benn98 mentioned the amount of text, too: “Yay! When last have we seen Lily nab a cover? Looks good, but if you squint the leg positioning looks odd. I don’t recall them having this much text!”

“Seems like it’s from 5 years ago… very dated,” added an underwhelmed littlekiki.

GlamorousBoy agreed and echoed “very dated cover…” inside the thread.

Also not sold on the cover was Bertrando3: “It does not look appealing to me whatsoever. She looks tired and strange, the proportions are not working for me.”

A select few admired Turkish Vogue‘s efforts this month, though. “What a perfect cover for December. Lily looks fantastic. Her pale skin looks amazing on grey background. Her pose and this dress are really great. Can’t wait for an editorial!” enthused an optimistic and impressed narcyza.

“I like this, all the dots give the cover a festive feeling, Lily looks great,” complimented Nymphaea.

We guess Vogue Turkey deserves some slack, considering the magazine delivered a fabulous supermodel cover for November. Tell us what you think of its December 2014 cover inside the thread here.

Reese Witherspoon Makes the Cover of UK Harper’s Bazaar’s January Issue (Forum Buzz)

For most of us, the month of January is about change, introducing a fresh new image and reinventing ourselves for the year ahead. The January cover of U.K. Harper’s Bazaar is certainly giving us motivation. Reese Witherspoon fronts the issue appearing radiant as ever, photographed for a close-up profile cover image with her blond tresses styled to one side, a gorgeous and effortless makeup look applied to her charming face as she oozes Old Hollywood glamour with a modern twist. We salute Harper’s Bazaar for kicking off 2015 to a good start!

The minute the cover surfaced on our forums, members began to weigh in. “That’s fast! I didn’t expect her to get any UK mags. Reminds me very much of her US Vogue story, zoomed in. This is a very good start,” commented Benn98.

“She is a Beauty. I like the cover a lot,” complimented a satisfied fashionlover2001.

Miss Dalloway was clearly an admirer and wrote, “Really beautiful January cover, she looks stunning.”

Also on board was GIVENCHYlover, who proclaimed: “OMG stunning cover, love the hair!”

Cosmic Voices added that Bazaar‘s cover with Reese is “Much better than her Vogue cover [from October 2014].”

But not everyone was as content. “What a post-production! I can’t recognize her on this cover,” slammed narcyza.

“Same old same old… from her and the mag,” added an underwhelmed kokobombon.

Are you impressed with British Bazaar‘s efforts this month? Await the contents of the issue inside the thread and join the discussion here.
