The Scene: Kristen Stewart, with newly chopped hair, Poppy Delevingne, Jared Leto, Lily Collins and Baz Luhrmann, who has almost wrapped his new campaign for Chanel No.5 perfume starring Gisele Bündchen, were all in attendance. Unlike seasons past, the set was minimalist.

The Casting: 18-year-old Kendall Jenner stole the show when she made her Chanel Haute Couture debut wearing a red and black tweed off-the-shoulder dress.

The Inspiration: It was minimalism meets excess in this season’s collection which was inspired by “Le Corbusier goes to Versailles.”

The Look: With around 70 looks, there was plenty to appeal to Chanel’s wide fan base. From sporty tweed cycling shorts and futuristic mesh tops, to flared-skirted tweed coats and heavily embroidered cocktail dresses, the options were endless. Most, however, were high on the dramatic scale thanks to their textural variations. Brocade, tweed and feather details were featured most prominently in the glittering collection, which capped off with a pregnant bride wearing a crepe de chine gown with a gold brocade cape and a line of gold buttons from the top of her belly down.

The best looks were the designer’s sculptural ones as the clean lines let the incredible workmanship of the embellishments take center stage.

The Accessories: While this season didn’t bring with it sneakers, heels, at least according to Karl Lagerfeld, are still out. Models wore highbrow takes on flip flops in black, silver or white, each one finished with grosgrain ribbon bow that tied around the ankles. Also on tap, highly embroidered and embellished messenger bags.

The Beauty: Punk-ish short hair, squared off brows, pink lips and eye shadow worn from the eyes to the brows made for a dramatic look.

The Takeaway: Karl Lagerfeld delivered drama that was classic enough for Marie Antoinette, but modern enough for today’s couture buying customers.
