Mary Katrantzou Surprises by Ditching Her Signature Prints for Fall 2014 (Runway Review)

The Inspiration: Symbolism, in particular the ones associated with uniforms like TNT, DHL, policemen, bankers, butchers and more, the designer noted.

The Look: Who could have predicted that Mary Katrantzou would ditch her signature digital prints? Retailers need not worry, however, as the designer delivered something fresh, equally covetable and arguably more luxurious. Embroidery, lace and appliqués (in keeping with her inspiration there were many emblems and crests) were prominently featured. The designer also switched up her signature silhouette replacing bodycon dresses with long, flowing goddess cuts, metallic suits and long sleeve minis. Particularly covetable were the long sleeve pleated gowns that opened the show along with the mixed textured skirts and dresses draped on the bias.

The Accessories: Structured handbags and colorblocked square-toe shoes.

The Beauty: Focused on beautiful skin, models' lips were coated with a matte rosebud lipstick, a soft blush was used on cheeks and a muddy silver color was used on eyes. Hair was parted in the center and finished with semi-defined waves.

The Takeaway: The designer knocked it out of the park with her unexpected collection.
